The Top Automotive Accessories I Use the Most

Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a huge car guy. I don’t mind working on cars and it’s actually fun and relaxing to spend time doing that. But it’s one of those things where I know enough to be dangerous and can start doing more harm than good with what I […]

My Families Essential Bike Accessories

My family loves to go biking. No one does any extreme biking, but it’s something we all really enjoy. Here in Bend, it’s an especially great city for bikers because there are so many trails and overall, it’s a pretty bike friendly city. So between all the different bikes in our family, I’ve developed a […]

The Dog Accessories We Use the Most

Having a dog can be like having another child. Growing up we had 2 dogs, several cats, a few birds and a hamster. But the family dogs are the ones that stayed with us the longest.  So when you have a family dog, who’s like another family member, I find myself shopping the way I […]

ClickMinded SEO Course Review

While this course wasn’t for me, I could see it being great for others. Let me start out with what was great about this course. First, Tommy is one of the best people I’ve listened to as far as courses go. He has great pacing, so things keep moving along, his tone is engaging and […]

Water sports are the best, right??!! And here in Bend, we have some great opportunities to to play in the water such as kayaking, paddle boarding, inner tubing and boating.  So I wanted to share a few items I’ve come across that you may find helpful. These are accessories that aren’t necessarily well known or but I’ve found them to be quite helpful so I wanted to let you know about these as well.

BPS Storm Premium SUP LeashThe first is a surfing leash by BPS. It’s called the “STORM PREMIUM SUP Leash” and although it’s pretty essential to have when surfing, I’ve found it comes in handy when paddle boarding as well. Now I admit, when first wearing this it can take a little getting used to, especially if you don’t like the feeling of having something wrapped around your ankle. BUT, after a short while, you don’t even notice it’s there. It reminds me of wearing sandals, at first you feel and notice them on your feet, but if they’re comfortable sandals, then you can actually like having and keeping them on!

And that’s what I really like about this leash, is that it’s not something you feel like your wearing just to keep your board from getting away from you, but it can actually feel comfortable to have on. Now there are several different styles and brands of these to choose from, but what I really like about this one is that it’s coiled, it has a lifetime guarantee and it’s not that expensive.

Dakine Pro Surf LeashNow if you want something with more girly styling (like pink!), or if you don’t want a coiled leash, or if you want some super durable then you’ll want to check out the Kainui Pro Comp Surf Leash by Dakine. If you’re going to be more surfing or something more intense in the water and you want to make sure your leash isn’t going to snap, then you’ll want to spend a little more and get the Dakine leash.

Even though the Storm leash has a lifetime guarantee, that isn’t going to cover the cost of your expensive surf board if your leash does snap. So although the Storm leash would be great for paddle boarding, or other less intense type water sports using a board, I’d highly recommend spending a few more dollars to insure you’re not going to risk your leash snapping even during the toughest spills and crashes. This leash is so good that you can use it for professional use!

And finally, if you’re interested in doing kayaking, you’ve probably noticed that not all kayaks come with paddles. It’s also not always apparent which ones are the best to buy, especially if you’re just starting out. My personal favorite paddles to use are the Marine Kayak Paddle by Shorline. What I like about these is they have a good mix of useful features, and good build quality without being expensive. They have foam handles, a drip guard, and a three position system which gives you more options to help you find the most comfortable way to hold them. The blade is contoured which helps give you better propulsion through the water and they disassemble into  two pieces so they can be stored more easily.

Shorline Kayak PaddlesNow the downside to these paddles is that because they are more on the affordable side of things, you do sacrifice a little bit build quality wise. So after a while of using these, you can notice a bit of a wobble with the blade. It will also depend on how forceful you are with these and how often you’re doing things like using the paddle to push off rocks and so forth. So if you’re planning on being hard on your paddles, you may want to spend a little more to get something tougher and that will hold up to more stress.

But if you’re just starting out, I’d still highly recommend these as it gives you a chance to have a great paddle (that honestly works better than some of the more expensive ones), and as long as you’re not real hard on them, they should still last and help you to have a great kayaking experience.

These are the main items I wanted to share with you in this category. As I come across other great accessories for designed for water sports I’ll be sure to add them to this list.
